Cookie Preferences
This page explains what cookies are, which ones Sportpace uses, and how you can change your choices at any time. We try to use as few cookies as possible — only the ones that help the site work and, with your permission, the ones that help us understand which articles readers find useful.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies cannot read other files on your device and they cannot run programs. Most websites use them to remember your preferences, keep you signed in or measure how the site is being used.
2. The three categories we use
We organise our cookies into three categories. When you first visit Sportpace, a banner asks you to choose which ones you want to accept.
Necessary cookies
These are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off. They include the cookie that stores your cookie preferences, the cookie that keeps subscribe forms working safely, and the cookie that helps the site remember you across pages. Without them, parts of the site would not work.
Analytics cookies
These help us understand, in aggregate, which articles readers spend time with and which navigation paths work well. The information is anonymised — we cannot identify individual readers. Analytics cookies are off by default and only set if you give consent.
Marketing cookies
These allow us to share relevant content with readers who have shown an interest in Sportpace. They are also off by default and only set if you give consent. We never use marketing cookies to profile sensitive information.
3. How to change your preferences
You can change your cookie choices at any time:
- Click the small “Cookies” link in the footer to reopen the banner.
- Use your browser settings to clear cookies for this site. The banner will appear again on your next visit.
- Write to hello@sportpace.org if you would like us to help with the process.
4. Browser settings
Most modern browsers allow you to block all cookies, accept only first-party cookies, or delete cookies after each session. Please note that blocking necessary cookies may prevent parts of Sportpace from working as expected.
5. Cookies set by third parties
Some cookies on Sportpace are set by trusted third-party services that help us run the magazine — for example, our email provider or our analytics tool. These providers are bound by contract to keep your information secure and to use it only on our instructions.
6. How long cookies stay on your device
Necessary cookies typically last for the duration of your session or for a few months at most. Analytics and marketing cookies, when accepted, may last up to 13 months before being refreshed or deleted.
7. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no industry-wide standard for handling these signals. We respect explicit choices made through our cookie banner and treat them as the primary source of your preferences.
8. Updates to this page
If we change which cookies we use or how we use them, we will update this page and adjust the “last updated” date at the top. For major changes, we will also reopen the banner so you can review your choices.
9. Questions
If you have any questions about cookies on Sportpace, please write to:
